Ceramids are essential stratum corneum components and play a crucial role in maintaining its structure and quality. They make up 40% of the intercellular lipid cement. They are responsible for regulating trans-epidermal water flow, maintaining the cohesion of the stratum corneum layers, protecting the skin, and restoring the skin barrier.
